Eww! Parasites are organisms that feed on (ectoparasites) or within (endoparasites) other animals. Fleas and ticks are well-known offenders, but are only a small part of the bigger picture. Others include; mites, lice, heart-worm, and a multitude of other intestinal parasites.
If your pets are very social and especially at parks, or dog resorts this can be a reason to talk to your vet about prevention options. These parasites live and breed in the soil and feces for example. Picking up after your animal will help protect against the spread if infected with parasites.
