Benefits of Exercising with Your Dog

The Corona Virus Pandemic has created a furry baby boom for Rescues and Breeders. The number of adoption inquiries are spiking as owners look for companionship and a reason to leave self-isolation for exercise. Like the isolation we experienced, dogs that go without regular exercise or socialization may be prone to behavioural issues, including destructive behaviours like barking, digging or chewing. Our pets also experience the health benefits of exercise like an increase in bone density, heart/muscle strengthening, reduced blood pressure and even a decrease in blood pressure.

If walking, rollerblading of cycling doesn’t interest you, consider swimming with your dogs! Swimming works various muscle groups, improves endurance, and strengthens the heart and lungs.

Finally, Never underestimate the value of dog training for it’s health benefits. Agility is a popular goal-oriented sport. Your dog races through an obstacle course with ladders, hurdles and tunnels, while you run alongside offering praise and encouragement. Even a simple game of fetch will get you off the couch and into a park where you can do crunches or lunges in between throws!

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
